Toward High-Performance Lithium- and Sodium-Ion Batteries

Lithium- and sodium-ion batteries are among the most lucrative technologies for addressing the global energy crisis. In this regard, Chungbuk National University researchers have now proposed a novel hierarchical multicarbonyl polyimide derivative as an anode active material for these batteries. It was synthesized by facile condensation polymerization of 3,3’,4,4’-diphenylketotetraanhydride and 2,6-diaminoanthraquinone compounds. The derivative is a superstructure with spherulite-like architectures, comprising highly compact packed 2D nanosheets. As a result, it exhibits large storage capacity, good rate capability, and excellent cycling performance.
