Introduction

Chemistry is the study of basic theory on the structure of matter, properties and reactions and systematically studying the related experiments. Especially, the role of chemistry is becoming more important in the areas such as finding new materials such as electronic materials, polymers and ceramics, the development of various new drugs used for preventing and treating diseases, exploring in the molecular level of life phenomena, nano-technology that can change the paradigm of industry of the 21st century and the environmental technology which is the challenges of mankind, In the department of chemistry at Chungbuk National University, our educational goal is to foster the professional talents who can take on the leading role needed in such time. During the bachelor's degree, basics of chemical major sectors such as inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry and the applied knowledge is educated through lectures and experiments. In the chemistry department and the graduate school who is now establishing the Master's course and the Doctoral course, 14 professors and graduate students are actively conducting the research activities. Education and research apparatus held by the department of chemistry are NMR, FT-IR, UV, HPLC, GC, AAS, Nd-YAG laser, Xeon computer cluster and a number of experimental and computer equipments.
